Program manager lightweight automotive
Within Brightlands Materials Center, the Program Manager is responsible for the full management of a Shared Research Program. The Shared Research Program contains programmatic R&D following a Program Plan and a long term Roadmap, to which companies are invited to become a partners.
One of the lead Programs within Brightlands Materials Center is on Lightweight Automotive. It follows the strong driver in the worldwide automotive industry to reduce weight to limit carbon emissions. Within the Shared Research Program Lightweight Automotive the focus is on Thermoplastic Composites (to meet increased production and recycling needs) and on thermoplastic foams.
The Program Manager is responsible for the short and long term strategy within his Program. He initiates and coordinates a portfolio of new projects and activities within the Shared Research Program with the goal to come to breakthrough technologies in which polymeric materials play a crucial role.
The Program Manager plays an active role in setting up external collaboration with leading OEMs, Tiers and Resin Suppliers, with universities and research institutes and with other relevant players in the value chain (think of machine builders or other raw materials suppliers). In the R&D eco-system of collaborative partners, the Program Manager creates an inspiring technological environment in which the R&D program leads to new insights and new breakthroughs in application technologies.
The Program Manager will take a leading role in acquisition of the major target partners in his Program. Based on industrial needs and available knowledge, he will build en execute his Program Plan. He is responsible for the revenues and costs within his Program.
To be able to fulfill the above role, the candidate Program Manager should have the following capabilities.
Academic education in Mechanical Engineering or related direction, with a PhD preferably in the field of polymeric materials and their applications. PhD in the field of thermoplastic composites is a clear advantage.
At least 10 years of experience in industry in the field of the application of plastics in Automotive, preferably with one the major players in the (lightweight) Automotive value chain. He (/she) has worked in consortia with external parties.
Customer orientation. Commercial skills to attract Partners for the Shared Research Program.
Strong leadership capabilities and experience in leading (multidisciplinary) teams of professionals.
A strong drive to succeed, results oriented, able to transfer his enthusiasm to his team. Capable to translate innovative ideas or concepts into practical research proposals and steer his team to execute these.
A strong experience in project or program management.
Excellent communicative skills, fluent in English and very good in German.
An authority in his field as shown by invitations to speak on conferences or symposia, publications and patents
Enthusiasm to build a start-up organization into a successful R&D center, together with other Core Team members of Brightlands Materials Center
