Oracle & MS SQL Database Platform Engineer

Looking for an Oracle and MS SQL Database specialist to join one of our globally leading clients on a 6-month rolling contract in Amsterdam. The team is currently remote based, but candidates will be required once the virus is contained. You will deliver and manage the client’s database platforms. You have in-depth and relevant technical knowledge of Oracle and / or Microsoft SQL (preferably both). This is emphatically not an application / database developer.
You work in an out tasking model with partners who are contracted for services and must be managed. You explicitly do not implement yourself but guide the partners and you determine what must be carried out and what the priorities are. You are part of an Agile team where activities are prioritized by the Product Owner. In sprints you participate in all team activities, such as stand-ups, sprint schedules, retro's, etc. to make and keep your progress transparent.
You are primarily involved in providing Database Engine products such as Oracle, SQL and DB2 Midrange.

The ideal Oracle & MS SQL Database Engineer will have the following responsibilities

• Reviews of the current platforms, improvement proposals and guidance of the vendor in the implementation of these proposals.

• Solving audit and risk findings for the mentioned products

• Technical designs of the platforms (e.g., how should SQL2019 be implemented on UCS), considering all facets, security, licenses, etc.

• Implementation of new features in the existing platforms that can be used by the functional developers.

• Delivery of end-to-end integrated platforms including service management, monitoring, security etc. OPS related activities.

• Coordinated and approved life cycle management plans.

• You do the above in consultation with the vendor who takes care of the installation & maintenance of our products.

As a Platform Engineer you have demonstrable basic knowledge of all knowledge areas and you are an expert in one or more knowledge areas, according to the T-shaping model. You continuously work on your development, so that you become more multi-skilled, your knowledge of new techniques and methods remains up to date and is applied effectively and efficiently in what you deliver.

The ideal Oracle & MS SQL Database Engineer must have the following skills

Specialist knowledge of

• Database Engines, Oracle en MS SQL

You can create and implement a roadmap / vision / design for these products for the coming years.

Basic knowledge of 2 or more of the following skills

• Service Mgt processes and tooling

• Security

• Disaster recovery

• Create and configure VMs and hosting products.

• Storage management

You act at HBO / academic work and thinking level and you have relevant work experience in building and managing IT solutions in the field of databases.
