Tools is a Dutch non-profit foundation, dedicated to working for patient organizations in the Netherlands and beyond to improve the quality of life of people with chronic conditions. Co-workers from Tools are always patient experts and have their own experience of living with a chronic illness. They work as a volunteer or receive a small honorarium for their efforts. One of the objectives of the foundation is to create work in an environment that takes into account the special needs of people with a chronic condition.
Tools supports organisations and people who are thinking about organising thematic activities. Whether it is a small event like a workshop or focus group, or a larger happening such as a family day or several days conference, Tools gives advice or organises the event. Setting up an implementation plan or actually carrying out a project, … everything is open for discussion.
Developing and leading training sessions for patient representatives as well as for health professionals. The teaching and training always happen in a practical way, beginning with the client’s interest, and are focused on the empowerment of patients, professionals and their organisations. Special training aimed at patient advocacy on a local, regional, national and international level. Seeking to influence political and other parties that can be of use for the patient organisation is the main focus in these sessions. Tools provide practical support for patient advocates by means of coaching and training in how to deal with the media and public.
